LJ install questions

From http://www.livejournal.com/doc/server/lj.install.perl_setup.modules.html

LiveJournal requires several Perl modules to be installed. Installing these modules requires a fully working perl and C development environment (including gcc and make).

Using Debian, how do I properly install gcc and make? Is it just as simple as:

apt-get install gcc
apt-get install make

I'm very "wary" about installing the additional Perl modules. I attempted it yesterday and was confused by the CPAN command-line interface. It asks for a CPAN source, and I'm not sure what to enter. Then I think I might have entered something correctly, it looked like it was downloading a bunch of stuff, but then gcc and/or make seemed to get a ton of errors as well.

Is it ok to install Apache using apt-get, or would it be better to compile from source?

- Like I said in a post yesterday or the day before, I'm very new to Debian. But I'm trying it out because it seems to be the "recommended" distribution for Livejournal.

Help me out guys!

I get these errors from 'install Bundle::CPAN' - I don't know whats wrong!
